Folk Punk: The Definitive History

Folk punk is a fusion of folk music and punk rock. Folk punk in the United Kingdom has existed almost as long as punk rock itself. The most famous British folk punk band is The Pogues, who formed during the new wave of punk rock in the early 1980s. They played a mix of traditional Irish folk songs, modern social commentary and songs of boozy hedonism.
Some folk punk musicians play a style that is less folk-influenced, but use instruments not normally used in punk rock, such as the violin, banjo, mandolin or ukulele. Some folk punk bands combine elements of punk rock with folk styles such as jug band music and eastern European gypsy music.
Folk Punk also has gotten popular with a select group of Floridian Anarchist DIY bands. Some examples would be Against Me!, Ghost Mice, and This Bike is a Pipe Bomb. Many of these artist are signed to Plan-It-X Records
